Last year, Kimberly Swann was fired after she posted that her job was "boring" on her Facebook page. A waitress in Charlotte, NC, complained about a different issue, but received the same result.

Ashley Johnson, 22, was a waitress at Brixx Pizza in uptown Charlotte, NC. However, about a week ago, a couple came in for lunch and stayed for three hours, which forced her to work an hour past her quitting time.

Not only that, after that, the couple left her what she considered a tiny tip, $5. Johnson then proceeded to forget what many have warned: watch what you post only. She went home and posted on Facebook, "Thanks for eating at Brixx, you cheap piece of **** camper."

A day or two later, the managers at Brixx called her in, and fired her. Showing her a copy of her Facebook post, they said she had violated two company policies: a) speaking disparagingly about customers, and b) casting the restaurant in a negative light on social networks.

Johnson apologized, and admitted her guilt, but was still fired.
"I did write the message. But I had no idea that something that, to me is very small, could result in my losing my job. I lost my job because of a Facebook status. Even a week later, that's still a lot to get your mind around."
What's interesting is that Brixx doesn't want to be cast in a negative light by employees' comments on social networks. Undoubtedly, the publicity over Johnson's firing, though warranted by company policies, is likely to do the same.
