The initiative reportedly accelerated after Google’s Chinese operations were hacked, in an alleged attempt by the Chinese government to gain access to Gmail accounts of dissidents.

According to unnamed Google employees, Google has been pushing its employees to use its own products, a process known popularly as "dogfooding." That would naturally include the Chrome OS that Google is developing.

Once the Chinese hacking efforts became known, the trend accelerated, although Google employees could still use Linux or Mac OS X. One employee stated that employees wanting to continue using Windows required clearance from “quite senior levels," while a second added that “Getting a new Windows machine now requires CIO approval."

Windows has been the target, not just for hackers, but also for Apple, who frequently point out the numerous security flaws and attacks on the Microsoft OS. However, with various versions of Windows accounting for more than 80 per cent of OS installations (according to research analytics firm Net Applications), it's small wonder that Windows is targeted most often by hackers.

Additionally, the Mac OS has proven vulnerable at security and hacking conferences, while a recent iPhone OS vulnerability on non-jailbroken devices has been revealed, which showed an easy way to break into even a PIN-protected device. Thus, Apple is not invulnerable.

It is, however, less of a target, and combined with "dogfooding," this move makes a lot of sense for Google.

Not only was the Tiger Woods simply hilarious, on Wednesday, the South Park Facebook episode ("You Have 0 Friends") was on the mark about what makes social networking sites like Facebook truly an annoyance.

It's not as though the Facebook updates many see upon logging into their accounts nowadays are all that impressive, anyway. Lately, the updates we see are mostly about Farmville. Seriously, however, the amount of pressure applied to those who eschew social networking is so much, that (as noted in the South Park Facebook episode), many simply giving up after realizing that it takes less time to "submit to the masses" than it does to refuse to join.

There's also the fear that your parents might notice your Facebook page, and ask to be added as a friend. That's what happens to Stan, and his dad is upset when he refuses to add him. "Aren't I your friend?"

Then, of course, your friends will harangue you to make sure you update your profile. Don't stick with your default profile. "Wait, I'm your girlfriend, but you haven't updated your relationship status???? Are you cheating on me?" Sigh.

Friend the wrong person and people start to ignore you. And hey, real-life face-to-face friendship is not good enough. "Please, be my friend on Facebook! Help my farm!"

Then there's the great part when Stan tries to delete his Facebook account. He gets sucked into Facebook in an homage to Tron, the old movie about a video game designer who gets sucked into a video game virtual world.

The South Park Facebook episode isn't about just that site, either. They also lampoon Chatroulette as well, in a hilarious set of connections that show only penises to Kyle.

"Proof that America's youth is spoiled rotten. Think they would be beating this ipad to death if they had actually paid for it themselves ?"

"Agree with shogunz. They are such spoiled f*cks. And that's what's messed up about our world, everyone cares about themselves. It's the fact that they would destroy $500 and not give it to a good cause. Or even keeping the money would have been better than wasting it like that."

Yep, you read that right, a few people were applauding this. To be honest, one has to ask not just "what was the point of that?" but also, where did they dispose of that toxic-chemical laden carcass after they were done with it? Hopefully, they didn't just drop it in the nearest trash can.

It's true, however, that the family is obviously rich. The person in question, 19-year-old Justin Kocott of Pittsburgh, PA said his family donated $10 - 15,000 to the Make a Wish Foundation in 2009. They also bought two other undestroyed iPads. Kocott was expecting some backlash, though not as much as he go. As he added:
I knew some people would hate it, but I didn't think that many people would hate it. A lot of people are leaving really bad comments.
His next target may be a 3DTV.

They are counting on the popularity of 3D movies like "Avatar" to make a 3DTV the next must-have hardware for the home. Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic are the top four TV manufacturers.

Samsung on Tuesday introduced its line of 3DTVs at an event in New York. Samsung will offer 3D in LED, conventional fluorescent-backlit LCD, and plasma TV sets. The least expensive Samsung 3D TV is a 46-inch LCD, due out in May for about $1,700.

Samsung's plasma line includes six 3D sets starting with a 50-inch set at about $1,800, up to a 63-inch set at $3,800, all available in May. Meanwhile, Samsung's LED line includes 46-inch and 55-inch 3D versions due this month at $2,600 and $3,200, respectively. There is also a 40-inch priced at about $2,000 due out in May. At the top is a new higher-end line with a 55-inch model for nearly $7,000.

Sony, on the other hand, expects to sell 2.5 million 3DTVs this fiscal year (ending March 2011). Sony anticipates selling 25 million TV sets, with 10 percent of them 3D. That is pretty optimistic when there is still a dearth of 3D content.

Panasonic said it's planning to introduce 3D TVs at Best Buy, starting Wednesday of this week for only $2,500, about half the price they're available for in Japan. Why the favoritism? It's part of a strategy so that Panasonic can hit its target of 1 million 3DTVs (worldwide) sold in 2010.

Manufacturers have better hope the recession is truly over. There are many obstacles to adoption, including the glasses that must be worn to view 3D content. Many simply feel the glasses are too much of a pain.

There's also the fact that this is the first "round" of 3DTVs. There is an old adage that you should never buy the first revision of any product.

Additionally, quite a few consumers just moved up to HDTVs, and would be hard-pressed to justify another purchase for a brand-new technology.

Finally, there is the lack of content. Until June, when ESPN launches ESPN 3-D, there won't be much on TV. That network will showcase at least 85 live sporting events during its first year. That still seems a rather sparse mix, content-wise, if one doesn't need to upgrade their set. ESPN 3-D's first broadcast scheduled to be the first 2010 FIFA World Cup match on June 11th, between South Africa and Mexico.
